Fear

jess

Being scared is very normal and not strange at all, it only gets complicated if you are afraid of doing the things you want.
I am not an equitherapist or hippotherapist but I have a lot of experience with fears and experience with people overcoming their fears. Every week people with fears come to my stable and go home satisfied.

Got fear or uncertainty with horses?
Being afraid of horses is not really helping if you like working or handling them. It is not strange to be afraid of horses. 80% of people who handle horses sometimes suffer from anxiety.
This can be solved, we start in small steps and as soon as you feel comfortable, we take the next step. Thanks to my horses, I have already given back the confidence to many people on top and on the ground with the horse.

Fear on the ground
You can be scared on the ground. This may be due to experiences or because you as a person are afraid of losing control. Of course awful, if you find horses fascinating, and would like to interact with them, but there is a step that you have to overcome to get to them.
Also, I can help if you have children and have problems with holding and tacking up the ponies at a riding school.
We enter the field and look at the behaviour between the horses. What exactly do they do, how do they communicate and especially why. This gives you more insight into the horse language and how to handle it.

Examples are:
– I am afraid with a horse alone in the stable;
– I have no idea what to do in a group of horses;
– The pony that my daughter rides at the riding school bites while tacking up and I find it too scary to help.

We can work on:
– How does a horse think and react?
– Why do some situations seem very scary, but have actually normal reasons (such as, why does a pony bite?)

We are not going to ride, but we are going to handle the horses, we are going to pick up the basics of the behaviour and look at the groundwork.

Other examples are:
– Is your biggest problem trying to get a horse out of the field or from the paddock?
– Do you find it scary to walk towards the herd?
– Do you find it scary to take a horse out of the paddock while holding the horse in one hand and holding the gate in the other?
– Do you find horses in the stable scary?
– Your son or daughter wants to go horseback riding, but do you find the unpredictable horses scary. Very normal if you don’t know how a horse thinks. Your son or daughter is still too small to prepare the horse for riding and you really want to help, but you don’t have the confidence.
I will show how you can easily tack up a pony and what you should do if a horse or pony threatens to bite.
– Did you ride a lot in the past and have you not ridden for a period now? Then it can be difficult to resume riding. Or do you want to start riding again at a later age? Then this is a nice step before a riding lesson!

Fear with riding

Are you frightend to ride? Have you had any bad experiences, such as: falling, losing control or other reasons?
I have a couple of very sweet horses that have a very good sence on how the rider feels. They can give you a lot of confidence in yourself and learn to trust the horse.
I have also been anxious for a long time after a bad experience, so I know how you feel and I know how to get over it. We start in small steps and as soon as the rider feels comfortable, we take the next step. Thanks to my horses, I have already restored the confidence of many riders and they have found their pleasure in horse riding again
With your own horse I also guide in riding and overcoming fears

Examples are:
– I have lost the sense of control during the canter;
– I don’t feel comfortable stepping on a horse anymore;
– I fell hard once and now I’m afraid it will happen again;
– I just want to relax and enjoy riding again.

We can work on:
– How is a horse in his nature, making contact with the horse on the ground. We walk into the field or paddock and I give some basic knowledge about the horses. After the first few days you can already put a lot of the lessons into practice.
I think the part in the herd is very important because you can see how horses treat each other and therefore how they treat you. We walk into the paddock and I give some basic knowledge about the horses. How do they interact with each other, how do they see you, what is your role as a person. How can you handle them and all the basic knowledge that is important to handle a horse.
– Then we take one of my horses and we continue in the stable. Here we continue to touch and brush the horse.
– If it all feels right, we will go to the paddock and get started with groundwork and leadership. You search contact with the horse and show what is your personal space and you teach the horse to respect that space. We start to lead and follow, stop and go backwards. We will let the horse walk, trot and canter from the ground. As we do this, we are aware of the natural leadership and how to influence this. – Once you are aware of this, you can also practice it in personal, not horse related, situations.
– Then we start riding. We will practice walk, trot, canter and tempo changes. If you have problems with something, we can always take a step back and start with the lunge line
– We can also do sitting lessons. We do the sitting lessons with the lunge line without a saddle. We are going to work on balance, sitting and steering.

Or
– Do you want to start riding again after a hard fall, but already thinking about it you will feel anxious?
– Or do you actually want to start again after a long stop, but you don’t want to go into the riding school right away? While riding in private we practice walk, trot, canter and tempo changes.

Canter fear
The lesson canter fear is aimed at the canter. Step by step we gaine confidence we will pick up the canter.

No fear but uncertainty
It may also be that you are not really scared, but that it just feels uncomfortable. You do everything, but you are tense. You ride the horse, but you are bothered by your tension. Or you have muscle pain on your thighs the next day.

The specific request for help is different for everyone and something can be done about each request.
